Past exhibition: Four Scores on 150 Years Ago

Dave Burrell’s Civil War Concerts
From 04/02/2014 to 05/25/2014

Starting in 2010, composer and pianist Dave Burrell embarked on a five year project with the Rosenbach. He has written original music for one concert each year of the sesquicentennial of the American Civil War, inspired by his experience researching and responding to the Rosenbach’s historic collections. Each of the four concerts thus far has featured a different theme, and some of the compositions have repeated and grown throughout the series.

In this special exhibition, we invite you to explore this fascinating and unique project from its inception to today. Burrell’s original musical scores, research notebooks, and interviews about his creative process will be displayed beside the original Civil War documents which inspired the concerts. Visitors can also enjoy recordings of the previous concerts in the series: Portraits of Civil War Heroes, Civilians during Wartime, and Turning Point.

Dave Burrell will perform his 2014 concert Listening to Lincoln on April 10 at 6:00 PM and again on April 12 at 7:00 PM.
