This extended program will be the kick-off event for Stoker and Barker’s new Dracula-inspired prequel novel, Dracul, with vampiric festivities, a presentation by the authors and a book-signing.

In honor of the bicentennial of Frankenstein’s publication, we invited a historian of science, a literature scholar, and a biologist to a discussion moderated by a bioethicist. Their panel will explore the reasons that Mary Shelley’s vision has had such a profound effect on our imagination and on the way we structure our understanding of the ethical and social implications of biotechnology.
Enjoy this classic silent film the way it was meant to be experienced: with the beauty and drama of live organ accompaniment. Film tickets include popcorn and hot chocolate to warm your hands when Nosferatu sends chills up your spine.
The film will be preceded by a short lecture by Linda Lee, folklorist and co-curator of the exhibit “Poisoned Sleep: Frankenstein and Sleep Paralysis” in tandem with the Rosenbach. Lee will speak about the folklore surrounding the creatures we know as vampires, and the medical conditions that may have contributed to their enduring allure as figures of the night.
All are welcome to attend this reception in honor of the upcoming issue of the journal. Admission includes a copy of new issue, access to the Frankenstein & Dracula exhibition, and refreshments.
