The play this month is the second half of Antony and Cleopatra.

“Egypt, thou knew’st too well

My heart was to thy rudder tied by th’strings

And thou shouldst tow me after.”

We continue this week with the second half of Antony and Cleopatra, in which the lovers prepare to battle Octavius Caesar to retain their kingdom, and fight to keep their love alive as their relationship is battered by Roman attacks, fear, and jealousy.

Reading Shakespeare plays aloud not only offers a communal way to enjoy these great works but promotes a deeper understanding of Shakespeare’s poetry and wordplay. No acting experience is required to participate—just bring your voice and a copy of the play!

This event is completely free with advance registration. However, if you’d like to support free programming, please consider a donation, which you can include when you register.

If you think you’d like to read aloud, please select the “I’d like to be a reader!” ticket; there are fifteen available. Please bring your own copy of the play.
