On December 8, 1938, shortly before the beginning of World War Two, Dr. A.S.W. Rosenbach hosted a charity rare book auction to benefit European refugees, raising $35,000 through this interfaith endeavor. In the spirit of our founder’s philanthropy, The Rosenbach invites you to join us in tracing the little-known stories of friendship, good will and charity found in our collections. For this thematic journey through our rare books, manuscripts, and museum artifacts, we’ll explore 2010 Delancey Place by means of a show-and-tell in Dr. Rosenbach’s library, followed by a story-rich walk through the Rosenbach house. If our collections could talk, they would have a great deal to say about the virtues of kindness and human connection. Kick off your festive winter season with a heartwarming afternoon at The Rosenbach, as we share the tales of friendship and charity contained within our portraits, letters, books, and other treasures. Following the tour, seasonal refreshments will be served, and guests will be invited to join in conversation and fellowship.

Advance registration is strongly encouraged. If you would like to attend this tour on Saturday, December 8, and are celebrating the Jewish Shabbat, please feel welcome to register in advance, or attend the second tour date on Wednesday December 19.
