Explore the ancient art of paper folding and make your very own book sculpture. The Masu Box (translated as ‘measurement box’) is a simple origami structure made of paper. This square box can be used to wrap gifts or store objects, but it can also be adapted with simple bookbinding techniques to make sculptural book objects. In this workshop, we will begin with a box and a lid, and we will play with these paper elements to create books that can house images or small objects.

Led by Amanda D’Amico. D’Amico is a book artist working under the imprint Tiny Revolutionary Press. She is the Master Printer at the Borowsky Center for Publication Arts and teaches at the University of the Arts and Tyler School of Art. Her artists’ books have been collected and exhibited nationally.

Participants in the workshop are invited to arrive 30 minutes prior to start time for a curator-led tour of the Manjiro: Drifting, 1841–2020 exhibition.
