The Folger Shakespeare Library, founded on the collection of Henry Clay Folger, and the Lessing J. Rosenwald collection of the Library of Congress are among the premier collections held in the United States. Daniel De Simone will examine the legacy of Folger and Rosenwald, discussing how each of these giants of the collecting world came upon their decision to make gifts to the nation and help define the nature of philanthropy in the first half of the 20th century.
