Description

In a public workshop led by Dr. Norma Cantú, hear stunning poems from Whereas, Layli Longsoldier’s National Book Award-winning collection about the impacts of broken U.S. treaties with Indigenous peoples. Through this Oglala Lakota poet’s personal-tribal awareness, and with a close-up look at historic printed copies of U.S./Indigenous treaties in The Rosenbach’s collection, we will discuss the opacity of history and the occupation of language, body, and land.

This program is presented in partnership with the Free Library’s of Philadelphia’s One Book, One Philadelphia.
