Antony and Cleopatra (Part 1) | Shakespeare Read Aloud (in-person)

Date / Time

  • February 4, 2023
    1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Location

2008-2010 Delancey Place, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 19103, United States

The play this month is the first half of Antony and Cleopatra. We’ll read the second half in March.

“Age cannot wither her, nor custom stale her infinite variety.”

Not all of Shakespeare’s lovers are young kids in their first blush of devotion. In Antony and Cleopatra, we meet two older lovers who have experienced what the world has had to offer and now must try to rule their passions, while they also attempt to rule their kingdoms.

Reading Shakespeare plays aloud not only offers a communal way to enjoy these great works but promotes a deeper understanding of Shakespeare’s poetry and wordplay. No acting experience is required to participate—just bring your voice and a copy of the play!

This event is completely free with advance registration. However, if you’d like to support free programming, please consider a donation, which you can include when you register.

If you think you’d like to read aloud, please select the “I’d like to be a reader!” ticket; there are fifteen available. Please bring your own copy of the play. If reader spots are sold out, you are welcome to join the waitlist by selecting the “reader waitlist.” If you would just like to come and listen to the readers, select the “listener” option.
