In the beginning, there was the Rosenbachs, and they were fabulous. Scroll through The Rosenbach’s storied history to our museum’s origins! Meet young Phil and Abe at the genesis of their dealing and collecting careers! On this tour, we’ll separate fact from fable, see some of the earliest acquisitions of these champion connoisseurs, skim Abe’s earliest publications, and peruse Phillip’s fanciest accouterments—including his silver gilt cigarette case and gold lighter!

Pictured: This novelty multigraph photographic postcard of Dr. Rosenbach was made on the Atlantic City Boardwalk by the Myers-Cope Company in the second decade of the last century. Abe Rosenbach would have been in his late thirties or early forties. Although Dr. Rosenbach was not, in fact, able to multiply himself into a flock of alternate selves, the image is a fine metaphor for the many facets of Abe’s personality: dealer and collector, salesman and scholar, outgoing introvert.
