Description
As a preview event to our exhibition — Clever Criminals and Daring Detectives, opening April 9, 2017 — Michael Dirda joins us to talk about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic Sherlock Holmes in the context of popular fiction at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, including precursors and later “rivals” of Holmes’.
Michael Dirda is a weekly book columnist for The Washington Post as well as a contributor to The New York Review of Books, The Times Literary Supplement, and many other periodicals. He is the author of a memoir, four collections of essays, and other books about books. He was awarded the 1993 Pulitzer Prize for criticism.
