This program is sponsored by Pamela Schreiber

Even though the Shakespeare Read-Aloud is meeting in-person once again at The Rosenbach, we are going to be continuing our virtual meetings, as well.  Meetings are on Zoom and we read the plays as a group, round-robin style. After you register, you’ll receive email instructions with the Zoom link a week before the program.

Registration opens for Delancey Society members on March 2, for members on March 9, and for the general public on March 16.

The play this month is the second half of King Lear.

“When we are born, we cry that we are come

To this great stage of fools.”

Lear confronts his mortality in a world bereft of compassion. We’ll follow the King until his/their/everyone’s end in Shakespeare’s bleakest vision of life.

We’re dividing this very long play into two parts and reading it over two meetings (April: Act 1 – Act 3, sc 2; May: Act 3 sc 3 – end).

All readers are responsible for their own internet connection and we request that all readers be video-enabled to participate.

Reading plays aloud offers not only a communal way to enjoy these great works but also promotes a deeper understanding of their poetry and wordplay. No acting experience is required to participate—just bring your voice and a copy of the play!
