Description
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to step into the shoes of the bookbinder who crafted the Rosenbach’s acclaimed Bay Psalm book? Experience the thrill of historical bookbinding at this workshop, where you will make your own unique journal with the guidance of Ramon Townsend, a local master bookbinder. Through this hands-on class, you will find inspiration in an exciting selection from the Rosenbach’s American history holdings and gain insight into the object that serves as a foundation of our library: the book!
Instructor
While he was a student at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA in the 1970s, Ramon Townsend became employed by the Printers and Bookbinders at Colonial Williamsburg. There he was taught traditional Printing, Bookbinding, Marbling, and Papermaking. After graduating from William & Mary, Ramon continued training in Colonial Williamsburg for several more years. He then moved to the Philadelphia area and began Colonial Bindery, a business engaged in conducting workshops and repairing used and rare books. Ramon Townsend currently serves as President of the Philadelphia Center for the Book.
