Description

When first published in 1847 under the pseudonym Currer Bell, Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre, along with the novels of her sisters, Anne and Emily, was in some ways a revolutionary novel told from a woman’s perspective.  From the young orphan Jane’s “fierce speaking” against the injustices of those attempting to control her to the adult Jane’s proclamation, “I am no bird; and no net ensnares me,” Charlotte Brontë created a character who refused to be kept in her place. Join Sundays with Jane Eyre host, Edward G. Pettit, for a hands-on experience of some of the Brontëana in the Rosenbach’s collection, including a letter from Charlotte to her good friend Ellen Nussey, a manuscript of her Preface to Jane Eyre, and even copies of her novels owned by another famous 19th Century author, Lewis Carroll.
