Description

Although perhaps best known for their Romantic, Biblical, classical and medieval inspired paintings, The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood also produced poetry and novels, illustrations, decorative art, and beautifully bound books. Enter the mythical, enchanting world of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood through the Rosenbach’s first and early editions of the creative sibling duo Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Christina Rossetti, illuminated manuscript-inspired editions from the Kelmscott Press published by Arts and Crafts Movement proponent William Morris, and inspirations for the movement’s most famous paintings and favorite subjects. We’ll explore the antecedents of the movement, its impact on both literature and visual art, and how it laid the groundwork for future art movements in the late 19th century.
