The Rosenbach Salutes Outgoing Chair Arthur Spector, Welcomes Peter Nalle

For Release: Immediately

PHILADELPHIA, JULY 1, 2019—The Rosenbach is pleased to announce that Peter Nalle has been elected Chair of its Board of Directors, effective July 1, 2019. Mr. Nalle has served on the Board of Directors since 2015 and has been an active supporter of The Rosenbach for many years. Mr. Nalle said, “I join the entire Board of Directors and staff of the Rosenbach in saluting and thanking outgoing Chair Arthur Spector as he concludes his transformative tenure of over eight years. The Rosenbach is thriving in every way and I look forward to the road ahead.”

The Rosenbach’s flourishing partnership with the Free Library of Philadelphia, which began in December 2013, was the brainchild of Mr. Spector. While The Rosenbach continues to raise its own funds and enjoy substantial autonomy, the formal affiliation with the Free Library allows The Rosenbach to benefit from—and contribute to—its larger partner. Mr. Spector encouraged The Rosenbach to reposition itself as a center for great experiences, activating its collection through robust programming. The result is an active and sustainable Rosenbach with greatly increased attendance and financial support.

Peter Nalle has had a long career in publishing, having worked in senior roles at McGraw-Hill, J. B. Lippincott, Simon & Schuster, and Grolier, Inc. Since 1996, he has worked as a private investor/advisor and owner/operator of a number of publishing and information services companies, including Chilton Publishing and The American Reading Company. Mr. Nalle has also served on a variety of Boards including The Schuylkill River Development Council, The Association of American Publishers, The Society for Scholarly Publishing, The American Medical Publishers Association, and The Johns Hopkins University Press.

“I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Peter for some twenty years,” said Derick Dreher, John C. Haas Director of The Rosenbach, “and believe he is the perfect person to help The Rosenbach build on its new-found strength. His deep knowledge of the book world and the sea change it has been undergoing, combined with his business acumen, will directly inform The Rosenbach’s efforts to engage more with its growing audience, both creating new experiences on site and expanding into online offerings.”

Mr. Nalle lives in Philadelphia with his wife, Eleanor, whom he met at Brown University. Together they have one son, Graham Nalle.
